Easy Snacks For Parents On-The-Go

For all the parents out there, I’m sure between feeding your children, pick-up, activities, drop-off, and basically making sure everything is functioning, you may find yourself occasionally forgetting to eat. It is tough when you are putting your children’s needs above your own, but it is also important to take care of yourself. When you are in a plane and they are reviewing safety procedures, they always say to put on your oxygen mask before others. That is because if you are not functioning properly, how can you expect to help others? The same goes for adequately nourishing your body. Here are some easy snacks to keep you nourished throughout the day, even with the busiest of schedules:

  1. Apples with peanut butter- My all time favorite snack for so many reasons! This snack will keep you nourished due to it’s protein, fat and fiber content. It can also be such a quick and easy snack to prepare or pack on the go. Simply wash an apple, use an apple slicer to cut it up in one swoop, place some peanut butter on a plate or in a to-go cup and enjoy!

  2. Carrots and hummus- Another fabulous snack idea that is quick and easy to prepare and pack! This snack is again, full of protein, fiber and wonderful nutrients to power your day. To make it even more simple, get some baby carrots and pre-made hummus and throw it into a to-go container on your way out the door. If you prefer homemade, check out this simple hummus recipe.

  3. Fruit- It can be as simple as that! There are a great deal of fruits that can be grab and go and make for a mess free snack (bananas, apples, pears, grapes). Fruit can provide you with a great deal of fiber and vitamins to boost your energy and immune system during the day.

  4. Yogurt drinks- They aren’t just for your kids, you know! For my homesteaders, you can make your own yogurt beverage using a recipe like this and yogurt drink containers. Or, for the parents who prefer to purchase, here are some great brand recommendations: Siggis, Stonyfield, Chiobani, Wallaby, The Coconut Cult, LAVA, Pillars, and Forager. Make sure to keep an eye on sugar and the simplicity of the ingredients list for the best options!

  5. Kale chips- Super underrated snack! Kale chips are a very quick, easy and delicious way to get your greens in. You can also pack them and eat them on the go using these silicone baggies! Check out the recipe here.
